TPG Summer School

Our 2021 TPG Summer School program will be announced in July but for now check out our 2020 program presenters, sessions and sponsors.

Summer is here and while this is a summer like no other, one thing you can count on is that August will be packed full of free education and inspiration from The Powder Group - that's right nothing can stop TPG Summer School! This year's completely online session is once again is free for TPG Pro Members thanks to the generosity of our sponsors - Skindinavia, Cinema Secrets, Royal & Langnickel, Senna Cosmetics, The Makeup Light and Temptu. PBA members attend at a special rate of $20 per session and non-members attend for $40 per session.

On Wednesdays throughout the month - that's August 5, 12, 19 and 26 - The Powder Group will bring you two (or three on August 5th!) different artist sessions to inform, educate and inspire. This year's TPG Summer School features the incredible roster with Michael DeVellis, Ulla Gaudin, La Sonya Gunter, Devon Freeman, Jessica Williams, Bethany Townes, Joe Dulude, Aga Rhodes and Sarah Rigano. Michael DeVellis

Forward Together - To say that these have been trying times would be a very big understatement. But what the past few months have shown us, amidst all the challenges and uncertainty that we have faced, is that when we stay strong as a community, we are stronger as individuals. In this first-time ever personal development session, The Powder Group founder, Michael DeVellis, will take attendees through a process of connectivity and development that will have you ready for what’s next, whatever it is and whenever it comes, as you strengthen your connections and deepen your relationships in authentic and meaningful ways.

Perfecting Period Makeup - Period makeup designs is used in every area of makeup artistry and learning how to accurately execute these looks is a critical skill for every artist. Whether for a 1920’s style bride, a 1950s inspired editorial shoot or for a 1970s based film, researching, understanding the correct products to use and how to create these looks quickly and efficiently is a skill set everyone needs. New Orleans based makeup designer Ulla Gaudin will take you through the need-to-know process and demonstrate the skills required for this amazing area of artistry.

La Sonya Gunter

Creativity in Artistry - Natural makeup may be the beauty industry standard for commercial and many other areas of work, but those creative projects are what give us life and inspiration! In this creativity focuses session, La Sonya Gunter will take us through an exercise in artistry without bounds. Known for her work with Billy Porter and as the Prime Time Emmy nominated Makeup Department Head on Legendary, La Sonya knows how to get creative and will take us there in this very special session.

Devon Freeman

A Focus On Eyes - In the best of times in our industry the eyes can be the most distinctive, creative and unique parts of makeup design. In today’s mask-wearing society, amazing eye looks are truly becoming the go-to for not only special editorial or event looks, but for everyday wear. In this eye makeup focused session Devon Freeman will take us through a number of eye looks drawing inspiration from a variety of sources and incorporating a signature style into the stunning eye makeup designs.

Jessica Williams
Time: 4:00 PM Eastern
Makeup for Television and Film - In this film and television makeup focused session, makeup artist Jessica Williams will explore the basic principles of makeup application for television and film. Her work on such projects as Chicago PD and Empire have made her one of the most sought after talents in the business. In this session Jessica will take you through a makeup application, share her techniques, process and product choices - including light out-of-kit FX, as well as teach you how to train your eye for working on set.

Color Theory Essentials - From color choices in every design to foundation matching and custom blending, color theory is one of the most important skill sets that an artist can have. In this first-time, stand-alone session, Bethany Townes will guide participants through color theory basics and beyond.

Joe Dulude II

Transforming the Face - The desire to transform the face has been around forever - from Queen Elizabeth I, covering her skin with white and donning a red wig to transform into the Virgin Queen or the work of Kevyn Aucoin transforming Liza Minelli into Marilyn Monroe - people have been fascinated with the transformation that makeup can do. In this amazing and creative session, Joe Dulude II will take you through a facial transformation showcasing how to cover brows properly, the usage of face tapes and how the knowledge of contour and highlight to easily change the structure of your face – all skills that with practice, you can utilize in your own makeup work.

Aga Rhodes

The Flawless Bride - In this bridal and event makeup focused session, Chicago based bridal artist and educator, Aga Rhodes shares her signature look in this essential session for everyone who works in personal services and event makeup. Many things are canceled in 2020 , but one thing is not - Love. Weddings - from micro-events to online weddings - are in full-force and big events are just around the corner. Now is the time to hone your skills and create a plan for exceptional artistry and service - and Aga is the one to take you there.

Sarah Rigano

Knowing You - In this wellness-focused session Sarah Rigano will explore how thoughts, beliefs, and stories can create barriers to full self-expression and prevent deep connection with self and others. We will learn how limits, real or perceived, can impact decision-making, personal and professional trajectories, and create challenging perspectives that skew reality. Through an open and candid dialogue, Sarah will share with participants a series of easy to integrate prompts and practices to encourage a greater sense of connection to themselves and their inner resilience to shape their future from a place of purpose and balance in mind and heart.
