To be a success in the world of makeup artistry for film, television and beyond is more than just understanding how to perfect your client’s look for camera. Today, every artist must know the techniques to create deeper character looks including everything from basic FX and wounds, to tattoo application and more. In this first-time event Emmy nominated and MUAHS Guild winner Michelle Garbin will share her beyond-the-basic techniques that she has used on such productions as Major Crimes, Pacific Rim: Uprising, I’m Dying Up Here and Sons of Anarchy, that have made her one of the most well rounded and sought after artists in our business.

In her 30 plus years in the Hollywood makeup industry, Christina Smith has created some of the most memorable characters in film. From Steel Magnolias and Hook, to Schindler's List and American History X, she has helped to tell some of the most powerful and entertaining stories in the history of cinema. In this very special event, Christina will share her thoughts on longevity in our industry, the product, tools and techniques that have made her one of the most sought after pros in the business and demonstrate a look from one of her most iconic projects.

The Art of Men’s Grooming
Celebrity makeup artist, hairstylist and mens groomer Sean James has made a career out of perfecting faces. Sean is known for his work across a wide variety of mediums from advertising to television and fashion. His clients and projects include his work on The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, The Preacher. Chris Hardwick @midnight, Talking Dead, Rufus Wainwright, Al Yankovich, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Phil Keoghan, Eugene Levy and Dylan and Cole Sprouse. In t hishis special session Sean will share his techniques and product must-haves for his men’s grooming work and discuss the important distinctions in the type of media one is working in, when approaching the important area of men’s grooming.

Michelle Garbin
Michelle Garbin is an emmy nominated makeup artist, clinical esthetician and President of Vivid MD Skincare. During the last year she has worked for the movie: Pacific Rim Uprising and television series: Major Crimes, I’m Dying Up Here, and America’s Next Top Model. Michelle’s experience is in multiple facets of makeup artistry: film, television, commercials, print, music videos and motion capture productions. She remains in high demand for her knowledge, skill and enthusiasm. She received the Makeup Artists and Hairstylist Guild Award for Sons of Anarchy. Michelle is a world traveler who holds dual citizenship in the U.S. and Italy.

Christina Smith
Canadian-born Christina Smith began her career in make-up after assisting the renowned fashion photographer
Bud Fraker. Christina started by advising Fraker on innovative make-up trends, and soon found herself one of the most sought after make-up artists in the United States. With a growing reputation, Christina opened a small make-up boutique at the front of Fraker’s studio. After a short time, Christina caught the eye of Liza Minnelli and Minnelli asked Christina to work with her on the film CABARET. At this point, Christina was one of the first female make-up artists to hold a union card in California.
Christina’s career has since flourished. She has worked on such films as SCHINDLER'S LIST (Steven Spielberg),
which earned Christina two Academy Award nominations and a BAFTA, and HOOK (Steven Spielberg). Her
recent films include THE THREE MUSKETEERS, FACES IN THE CROWD, BRINGING UP BOBBY and RESIDENT
EVIL: AFTERLIFE, for which she received a Genie Award nomination. Additionally, Christina has worked on
HOW DO YOU KNOW, LAW ABIDING CITIZEN, THE FOURTH KIND, A PERFECT GETAWAY and AMERICAN HISTORY X.
In addition to her Academy Award and BAFTA nominations, Christina is also the recipient of an Emmy for her work on “King”. She has been honored twice by the Canadian Film Council for her outstanding contribution to
film. In 1994 Christina was the recipient of the Crystal award presented by the prestigious Women In Film
organization, as well as being honored by The Girl Scouts of America as an Outstanding Female Achiever.
2003 brought a nomination from the IATSE Local Union 706 Make-Up Guild for her work on LIFE AS A HOUSE.
In 2004 Maria Shriver listed her as an outstanding female achiever in California.
Running alongside her film career, Christina has created a couture eyelash atelier that provides lashes to some of
the biggest female celebrities in the world. Her clients include Kate Hudson, Lindsay Lohan, Julia Roberts, Rachel
McAdams, Milla Jovovich, Monica Bellucci, Amber Valletta, Catherine Zeta Jones, Liza Minnelli, Cher, Dolly Parton and Shirley MacLaine, to name a few. This success is due to her amazing beauty work and the fact that
Christina makes the only handmade eyelashes on the market.
Christina is a spokesperson for Smart Cover Cosmetics and has previously partnered with M•A•C Cosmetics to
develop a line of lashes. She has also been featured in numerous editorials for magazines such as Vogue and
has appeared on QVC and HSN.
Most recent film credits are RESIDENT EVIL: THE FINAL CHAPTER (Paul W.S. Anderson) starring Milla Jovovich, and THE LAST DAYS IN THE DESERT (Rodrigo Garćia) starring Ewan McGregor.
Christina is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and currently resides in Los Angeles.

Sean James |
Celebrity Hairstylist/Makeup, Mens Groomer LOCAL 706 Union Makeup artist, Sean James is currently working JAMIE LEE CURTIS, on a world press tour for Blumhouses HALLOWEEN and just did Weezers new video.
He also works Chris “Talking Dead,” "Talking Bad," Talking Saul, "Fear of the walking deads" ,Talking Dead ",“talking Preacher on AMC and the cast and creators of the “Walking Dead” and most recently “Breaking Bad”. And Most recently a NEW show Called “THE WALL “ on NBC.
His talents as a wig maker brought him to America from Australia on an extraordinary talent working visa and he is now a VOTING American CITIZEN.
After finishing a four year apprenticeship learning the Vidal Sassoon method, under Australia’s leading stylist Oscar Cullinan, he was encouraged to explore the world. During his first week in the U.S. he worked on the South
African short film, “Look What We’ve Done,” which was later nominated for an Oscar. Sean’s destiny had begun.
He then moved to London for two years, where he gained his sense of style and received a great education in fashion working with the crew from Vivienne Westwood. With his new appreciation for fashion, he returned to fashion-thirsty Los Angeles, where he worked at the Fred Segal Salon in Santa Monica Helping bring celebrity recognition and personality to the brand.
Additionally, he became an educator and color specialist at the Los Angeles Flagship store for L’Oreal, training young stylists. In 2001, Sean became a part of the creative team for Redken, keying many fashion shows, including Dolce and Gabanna, Valentino, Gucci, Balmain, and Burberry. His work has been seen in publications all over the world. Most recently the Bibhu Mohapatra show in NYCFW.Representing the USA Sean Worked for “Balmain” Helping create looks for Paris Fashion week.
Sean has works with A-list stars, such as Jaime Lee Curtis, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Weird Al Yankovic Jamie Pressly, Julie Bowen Eugene Levy, Dylan and ColeSprouse, Lindsay Lohan, Rufus Wainwright, Brad Pitt, Megan Ory Teddy Thompson, and Phil Keoghan, Troian Belliasario. Sean worked and Paris Hilton, The Kardashians Kim, Khloe and Kourtney. he Styled Dita Von Teese in Paris also styled Courtney Love
