Brand new for 2026. Let’s go Beyond Basics with James Vincent with a focus on technique and craft at the forefront of these online programs all year long.

Beyond Basics focuses on advanced techniques, specialization, and professional development. We will look at your specific skills, explore each topic for different areas of our industry including bridal or editorial makeup, as well as incorporate and explore advanced and additional tools and techniques including airbrushing, while also covering business aspects such as how to incorporate methods of marketing, branding, and social media into your process as well as advanced color theory, facial analysis, and more.

Programs are available as individual sessions or artists can purchase the full year at a special discounted rate before April 30. All sessions are scheduled for 12:00 PM Eastern on the day of that session. Sessions will run approximately 90-120 minutes. A one-month on-demand rewatch will be sent out the following day for that session.

March 23 - Understanding Trend

  • In this first session of Beyond limits James breaks down the important trend and technique for 2026 and how to think about it every year. We will define trend, talk about its importance in our everyday applications, and show you how to implement elements of trend into your own work in your own way.

April 27 - Elemental Artistry

  • The elements of art in makeup are color, line, shape, form, space, texture, and value, which are used to create visual effects in our design and application.. Whether you want to enhance or alter facial features, create different styles, or tell a story through application techniques like contouring, highlighting, and color correction this breakdown will better your decisions and design. In this first session we will define each element and how it relates to your makeup design and how you are currently working with each before exploring each element throughout the year. 

May 18 - Line Work Dissected

  • Lines are important in our makeup design. They define shape, create structure, and guide the eye, while also communicating story and style. Lines are used to outline features, alter proportions, and add dimension, and can be manipulated to achieve different effects like softness, boldness, or a more lifted appearance. In this session, we will break down the why and what of eyeliner and talk about what you can do to bring your own aesthetic into your line work to help you define and develop your own signature style. 

June 22 - A Study of Form and Structure

  • From theory to application will teach techniques like contouring, highlighting, and shading to sculpt the face, using light and shadow to create depth and definition. We will explore tools and technique to help you better understand the face in front of you and the power and possibilities of makeup. Learn to identify different face shapes and to map out your makeup to bring out the best in your client, as well as explore blush, bronzer, and contour-driven products. 

July 20 - Shape and Space in Design

  • Dimension and space are both important to understanding the design and application of each makeup. In this session, we will identify and explore the tools and techniques for taking what you understand about color, form, line, and face shap,e and see what product and pro tips can elevate any basic makeup to a more editorial level or to reshape and reimagine the face

August 24 - Advanced Brow Focus

  • Eyebrows frame the eye, frame the face, and carry across mood and expression. In this session, we will explore line, shape, and purpose as well as breakdown techniques like mapping, shaping, filling, and taming, using tools such as pencils, powders, pomades, gels, and stencils, and which product formulas and finishes help you create your desired brow for maximum impact

September 28 - Beyond Essential Eyes

  • Recognizing eye shape and designing an approach that suits each is as important as knowing the fundamentals of eye application. In this session, you will learn to identify and map out your makeup designs more effectively for every client’s eye and gain an understanding of several classic eye application,s as well as explore ways to create and capture each for your portfolio and social media 

October 26 - Advanced Grooming

  • The intricacies of men’s grooming are sometimes lost in the world of basic makeup. Understanding the approach to presenting technique and products that will benefit you can open up a new area in your makeup business. In this new session, we will explore what makes a face appear more traditionally masculine and what you can do to implement new techniques to create a more editorial style for appropriate work. We will also dig into basic hair styling and facial hair care techniques to allow greater breath for your work.

November 16 - Editorial Artistry

  • This session explores the foundations of editorial art, covering inspiration, research, and creative references. You will learn to define and design your own unique editorial vision, enabling you to elevate your work, attract prestigious clients, and grow your career. Whether you are looking at

December 14 - Kit Focus

  • James will share the secrets to organization and efficiency that will save you money, time, and confusion. Learn how to make the most out of what you have while bringing the least amount of makeup to the salon or set. We will break down the basics of a pro kit as well as explore some of the product must-haves for every pro category by category, with a wrap-up presentation at the end to help you build your own makeup kit checklist, as well as explore what product possibilities are the best for the needs of today’s pro.
