BOOTCAMP:
The Art of Editorial
Wed, Nov 12 - Fri, Nov 14
Presented by James Vincent & Jessica Tiffany
Defining editorial, designing editorial and elevating your work to an editorial level open up the opportunity for more work and is a great way to separate yourself from the competition. In this very special Boot Camp session we will explore some sure fire ways to keep your makeup interesting, create smart and cohesive storytelling through your images and create engaging and career-relevant work that will land the clients and career you are working towards. This hands-on photography-focused program has been designed specifically for makeup artists and demystifies the art of capturing your work and curating it for your portfolio and social media.
Boot Camp: The Art of Editorial is sponsored by ESUM, Beekman 1802, Kryolan, Senna, OMNIA, RCMA Makeup, Codex Labs, Skindinavia, Alcone Company, and Rebels and Outlaws.
Day One: An Artist’s Eye: Light, Camera, Action
We will be focusing on how lighting, composition, and editing techniques can enhance—or detract from—your artistry. You will learn to work with professional-level lighting on set and master natural-light shooting with your smartphone in any environment. We will talk through creating compelling compositions that direct the viewer’s eye to the most important details of your work.
Understand the relationship between your makeup application and different types of light. Master essential smartphone photography techniques to confidently capture high-quality images of your work for social media, your website, and your professional portfolio.
Day Two: An Artist’s Eye: Editorial From Concept to Capture
This session explores the foundations of editorial art, covering inspiration, research, and creative references. You will learn to define and design your own unique editorial vision, enabling you to elevate your work, attract prestigious clients, and grow your career. James and Jessica bring you through the editorial process from inspiration to application with art direction and an opportunity to see your design though an editorial lens. On day two and three – attendees may provide their own model or one can be provided for $100 per day, payable directly to the model. Attendees will also receive digital images of the work they create.
Day Three: Optional – Additional Photo Shoot Day
This optional third day will allow participants to participate in an additional photo shoot day. Not only will this extra focus time help elevate the work of each participant through their own hands-on participation, but watching and learning from each other’s participants’ artistry and shoot will add to the elemental learning during the program. On day two and three – attendees may provide their own model or one can be provided for $100 per day, payable directly to the model. Attendees will also receive digital images of the work they create.
